Make room on your Android home screen by removing the Google search bar

Why remove or disable the Google search bar?

On many Android smartphones, the Google search bar is installed on the home screen by default. However, if you rarely use it, this feature can be seen as a waste of space that prevents you from adding more app shortcuts and widgets. Turning off the Google search bar gives you a cleaner home screen and highlights the wallpaper.

Even without a search bar, you can still search quickly using gestures or shortcuts like Google Assistant or other search tools.

Another easy way to get rid of the Google search bar is to get a custom launcher like Nova Launcher. These allow you to completely customize your Android device to look and work the way you want, and you can even get some launchers for free.

Third-party custom launchers are wonderful things, and Nova isn’t the only one out there. It is worth noting that installing a custom launcher is the only way to get rid of the Google search bar on Google Pixel smartphones and other brands that use the Android launcher by default.
