HP introduces Enterprise Security Edition (ESE) to strengthen the physical security of enterprise devices. The security suite protects against physical attacks and provides information about possible manipulations.
HP Enterprise Security Edition focuses specifically on protecting PC hardware and firmware from physical attacks and will be added to Wolf Security. This will allow IT administrators to better understand whether a device has been compromised during its lifetime.
Prioritizing physical security addresses the growing risks of hybrid and remote work. Physical attacks are less easy for attackers to carry out than traditional remote attacks, but for this very reason they are often more targeted. For example, devices that are left unattended for short periods of time can be tampered with by hackers.
Physical security
The set includes several levels of security. One of the key features is the Firmware Lock, a cryptographic lock that prevents unauthorized access to the firmware. Platform certificates allow companies to verify that hardware and firmware have not been modified since production. Sure Start Virtualization Protection provides protection against malicious hardware or firmware connected via ports such as Thunderbolt or USB-C.
According to HP, this approach can help counter physical attacks that are often part of sophisticated campaigns such as industrial espionage or attacks on nation states. Tampering with hardware and firmware allows attackers to access networks virtually invisibly. This is what makes these methods attractive, despite the increased risks for criminals.
HP’s goal is not only to better secure the devices themselves, but also to help businesses ensure the integrity of their hardware. The first phase is manufacturing and continues until the end of the computer’s life cycle. This is in line with the growing need for stronger hardware security management, especially as supply chain risks play an increasingly important role.
HP Enterprise Security Edition is available for select business computers. You will find in this list corresponding models.
