Apple already offers Apple TV, which allows existing TVs to be integrated into its ecosystem. But according to the latest news from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the company could launch an Apple-branded television later. Either way, the idea would catch on. But the launch or not of this SmartTV Apple would depend on the success of another product that would be released earlier: the famous connected screens.
While Amazon and Google offer connected screens for their home automation ecosystems, Apple does not yet have a similar product. But next year, according to Gurman, the company will launch its first connected screen for the home. This screen would have similarities to the iPad, use a new operating system called homeOS, and serve as a control center for connected devices in the home.
The success of this new product is not guaranteed. But according to a Bloomberg journalist, if Apple’s connected screen is a hit, it could then consider launching other connected home products, including another robot-enabled connected screen, as well as an Apple TV.
What will Apple’s connected screen offer?
So the Cupertino company would be focusing on this connected screen for now. And if caution is needed at this point, Mark Gurman’s publication shares some interesting details about this future product. This would have a home screen comparable to the iOS screen, displaying widgets and controls of the connected device on a 6-inch screen. The device would be compatible with connected HomeKit-compatible products (lights, security cameras, etc.), but would not have app stores. On the other hand, it would integrate some Apple applications such as Safari, Notes or Calendar. Apple would also highlight FaceTime integration and the ability to use this screen as a home intercom.
Otherwise, it would be a basic iPad with a square screen and an internal battery. The connected screen would also be equipped with sensors that allow the interface to adjust to the distance between it and its user. The screen connected in this way could be hung on the wall or placed on a pedestal that contains additional speakers.
- Apple would study the possibility of launching a SmartTV
- But that project would be contingent on the success of another product: Apple’s connected screens
- According to journalist Mark Gurman, this connected screen would be planned for 2025 and would compete with Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Show.
