A quick and easy guide to having two WhatsApp accounts on the same smartphone

Prerequisites

To manage two WhatsApp accounts on the same device, you need a second SIM card or a second mobile number, whichever method you choose.

Depending on the capacity of the smartphone, you can use two physical SIM cards, two eSIM cards or a combination of both. Only the latest and highest smartphone models support eSIM.

Method 1: Use WhatsApp Multiple Accounts Feature

The easiest way to add and use a second WhatsApp account or number on the same device is to use the multi-account feature, which only works with Android.

Add a second WhatsApp account

Once you prepare the second number, it’s easy to add a second WhatsApp account or number to the same WhatsApp app. Follow the instructions below.

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone
  2. Tap the icon (three dots) to open the menu
  3. Press Settings
  4. Select the plus (+) button next to your profile. It may vary depending on your version of WhatsApp
  5. Choose Add an account
  6. Continue the setup by entering your mobile number and verifying it
  7. You can also add an email for security reasons
  8. Complete the setup

Switch between multiple WhatsApp accounts

If you have successfully added the second WhatsApp account, you can manage it from the same WhatsApp app. Switching between your new and original account takes just a few clicks.

  1. Launch WhatsApp.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon to open the menu.
  3. Choose Change account.
  4. Switch to another WhatsApp account in the same way.

Method 2: Use WhatsApp Business on Android and iPhone

Another way to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device is to use WhatsApp Business. This method works on both Android and iPhone and requires no modifications or workarounds.

Unlike multiple accounts on WhatsApp, you can manage WhatsApp Business separately through its app. You can even open them side by side in multiple windows, which is an advantage over WhatsApp Business functionality.

WhatsApp Business on Android

As with the multiple accounts feature, a second number is required as using the same mobile number with WhatsApp Business will remove your number from the standard app.

  1. Download and install WhatsApp Business from PlayStore.
  2. Start WhatsApp Business.
  3. Enter your second number and verify it.
  4. Grant the app permission.
  5. Set your profile picture, name and business category (you can use “Other Businesses”).
  6. Press the button Following.
  7. Set a password when prompted.
  8. Add email and verify it.
  9. Continue to create the catalog.

Once you do this, you can regularly chat with your contacts using your WhatsApp Business account. If they have your number, your WhatsApp name will appear as a contact name on their device.

Tap the tab to start chatting Cats and select a contact from the list. Likewise, you can call your WhatsApp contacts by going to the tab calls. Your name will also appear to your contacts as the contact name on their device.

WhatsApp Business on iPhone

For iOS, using WhatsApp Business to manage two accounts on the same iPhone is similar to Android. Follow the step-by-step guide below.

  1. Install WhatsApp Business from the App Store
  2. Press Use a different mobile phone numberenter your number and verify it
  3. Press Continue to allow the app to access your contacts
  4. Set your profile picture, name and business category
  5. Press Following up to continue
  6. Add email and verify it

Method 3: Use Android app cloning

With most Android phones, it is possible to use the same apps or messaging services on the same device using the Android app cloning feature. On Samsung, this feature is called Dual Messenger. It’s called Xiaomi Dual applicationwhile OnePlus calls it Parallel application.

Unfortunately Google Pixel and Motorola don’t have native app cloning feature but you can use third party app like Parallel space.

Here’s how to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same Samsung Galaxy device using dual apps:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Choose Advanced features
  3. Tap on Dual Messenger
  4. Switch to WhatsApp
  5. Choose Install continue
  6. Use a separate contact list or continue using your regular contacts
  7. Launch the cloned WhatsApp app from the app list or home screen
  8. Configure your WhatsApp account

For other Android manufacturers, the process should be similar and requires enabling the app cloning feature and creating a new contact list for the second WhatsApp account.

With both WhatsApp apps (the cloned app is labeled differently depending on your Android device), you can manage both accounts through their respective apps.
